Pakistan Proposes Cambodian Embassy

PHNOM PENH: Pakistan has proposed that Cambodia establish an embassy within its borders to strengthen trade and people-to-people contacts.

On October 4, Pakistani Ambassador Zaheeruddin Babar Thaheem met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to congratulate him on his new position and maintain good relations. He also congratulated the Cambodian People’s Party on its landslide victory in the July election, for which Pakistan sent observers.

The ambassador stressed highlighted the good relations enjoyed under Prime Minister Hun Manet’s father, when the possibility of establishing a Joint Trade Committee was introduced.

He hoped that Cambodia-Pakistan cooperation would be further enhanced by further promoting trade and cooperation in the agricultural industry, to which Cambodia agreed.

The ambassador invited the new prime minister to pay an official visit to Pakistan. After requesting that Cambodia establish an embassy there, the prime minister agreed to the proposal, which will expand Cambodia’s presence on the international stage. Cambodia currently has embassies in 27 countries.
